Guruvarya Kevalananda Saraswati, formerly known as Narayan Sadashiv Marathe, was born in the village of Sudkoli in Rohe Taluka of Colaba District. At the age of eleven, he studied at Alibaug for some time, and at the age of eighteen, he took sannyasa. After studying sciences like the Vedas, Vedangas, Nyaya, Grammar, and Vedanta with scholars of those sciences, this contemplative sage dedicated his entire life to study, teaching, learning, meditation, and devotion to God.

His studies used to begin early in the morning. There were two parts to it: one for teaching and another for studying other subjects. He had studied many books on various subjects in Marathi and Sanskrit. Although he desired to learn English, he had no leisure time; but since his vision was all-encompassing, he believed that the Western world had no connection with the Vedas. However, he was of the opinion that its characteristics and importance should be understood. Therefore, he carefully read the books of scholars published in Marathi related to material science, biology, and social sciences.

He gained excellent knowledge of Indian and world history, modern astronomy, and geography. He acquired multi-literacy, befitting a newly educated person. Thus, the combined nature of the religious, social, and political movements of the new age became part of his thoughts.

The daily life of the Guruvarya was that of a fasting and ascetic person. There was never a break between seclusion and study. Since coming to Vaita, he was living on Madhukari. He did not make any budget. Because, they did not have such lust from the beginning. To do all his own work himself, very punctually. He was very keen on cleanliness and tidiness both in speech and body. No matter how angry he got, never a bad word came out of his mouth. The nature was affectionate; But his very refined behavior had a kind of effect on the students. Kevalanand Saraswati also maintained amicable relations with the people. He truly earned the title of Ajatshatru.

Narayan Maratha had decided at the age of twenty-three that he would devote his life to study and teaching. He formally took Sannyas at the age of fifty-three. He insisted on three points of the old system of education. For more advanced students, they are asked to narrate certain parts of the text to others. Others teach the same lesson to many students. He called it 'Chintnika'. Sometimes he used to hold student meetings under the chairmanship of Gurujan to explain some part of his subject. It was sometimes debated. This made the subject clear. The habit of presentation and presence are qualities that need to be developed. It makes good teachers.
Acharyas designed the system of education based on the ancient system; But keeping in mind its merits and defects, necessary changes were also made in it. Fazil reduced the importance of transition. He taught how to read the entire Amarkosh without reciting it. The aim was to produce orthodox but practical scholars who grasped essence and thought rather than academicism and hard work. The name 'Pragyamath' was given in memory of his Guru Pragyanand Saraswati.
